Wholesale with Kate Metten Ceramics

About
Thank you for inquiring about wholesale and I look forward to sharing a bit about my work with you; My understanding of clay comes from studying the BC potters who thrived during the 1960s back-to-the-land era of West Coast ceramics. I grew up playing with river clay in South Vancouver and studied ceramics at Concordia University, Montreal, Penland School of Crafts, North Carolina, and graduated with a BFA from Emily Carr University of Art and Design in 2017. Following that, I had the privilege of receiving a BC Arts Council Early Career Development Grant to pursue an apprenticeship with second-generation potter Gailan Ngan focusing on production throwing and natural mineral resourcing for ceramic material use. I have since done international residencies in Denmark and most recently Berlin where I worked in dialogue with a neuroscientist to generate geometric abstractions in oil that articulate new research behind the cognitive mechanics of looking. I have also exhibited painting, drawing and sculpture with Wil Aballe Art Projects, at the Burrard Arts Foundation and Nanaimo Art Gallery, and internationally at NCECA's annual exhibition. My tableware is strongly influenced by minimalist, Modernist approaches to simplistic design, monochrome glazing and limited decoration, striving to preserve movement in the thrown form. Most recently, I opened a storefront studio for my business at 2408 Main street in Vancouver after returning home from visiting the historic Leach Pottery in St. Ives.

Available Glaze Colours
These glazes have been tested and perfected over many years to ensure consistency in surface quality, food safety and texture. However, there will always be slight variations in glazes from batch to batch. For this reason, we do not offer custom glazes at this time and we ask that you choose from our current selection when doing wholesale orders. Thank you!
